What is a Chamber of Commerce?
The Chamber of Commerce is the business community working
together. It is the central agency that corrals the forces
of the community for its improvement and development - in
business, in industry and in the professions. Together, the
Chamber does what no one person can do by himself.
The Chamber is a voluntary organization composed of members
who contribute personal and financial support because they
choose to do so. It is a democratic organization that operates
according to a written set of by-laws and constitution.
It is eight years older than the Declaration of
Independence. New York State's Chamber was the
first Chamber established in 1768.
Who are the members of the Chamber?
All who want to improve the community are eligible for membership,
either firm or individual, in business, industry, or the
professions. Only ethical and community-minded members are
invited. A membership in the Chamber of Commerce is an investment
in a better local community, an investment in a better America!

future, call us-we are your local Chamber of Commerce.
How is it organized?
The Board of Directors of the Chamber, elected by its members,
sets the policy for the Chamber. It serves without pay. The
board also supervises several committees, which are set up
to handle specific projects. The President heads the Chamber
and has a paid staff under him. The size of the staff depends
on the demands and needs of the community and the amount
of work the Chamber carries out.
How is it financed?
The Chamber is financed on a voluntary basis; its expense
is apportioned among its members, individuals, and firms.
Business, industry and the professions are represented. The
membership consists of those who sincerely desire to build
a better business climate and community in which to live.
Membership in a Chamber of Commerce is an investment in the
present and future of your family, your community and your
business.
What does it do?
We're the voice of Morrilton and Conway County; the central
organization in which you and your fellow business people
join hands to promote the projects that benefit you, your
family, your business, and your community.
This includes developing industry and trade, promoting civic
activities, providing publicity and public relations for
the community, and much more. The variety and scope of activities
is virtually unlimited, depending on the needs of the community.
The Chamber does not carry out this work alone, but works
closely with other organizations and public officials. Its
aim is to help all members. The Chamber's job is community
development. The Chamber may also suggest changes and improvements
in legislation of the local body, the county, state, and
nation, in such matters as taxes, the freight rate structure,
and others.
How does it work?
The lifeblood of the Chamber is the committee. This is the
working horse, the unit that accomplishes the aims and objectives.
The kind and number of committees depend on the needs of
the community and the policy of the Chamber to satisfy these
needs. Such committees might, for example, be of this type:
- Committees for business promotion - stimulation of new
business, informative seminars, building up the retail
trade area, improving the business condition of the farmer.
- Committees for community improvement - solving the traffic
and parking problems, beautifying the physical facilities
of the city, bettering the local health and safety.
- Committees for good citizenship - cooperating with the
schools in improving education, encouraging better legislation
on all levels of government.
- Committees for internal organization of the Chamber promoting
the membership campaign, instituting a ways and mean set-up,
outlining its program of work.
